Of course. Once you’ve set up your account, you can get in touch with us to add more.
Why isn’t it free?
Some of the social networks charge us for different things, in particular our ability to remove messages in under a second, which is one of the things we’ve worked hardest at. We also use a variety of different data models so that we always comprehensively check for toxicity. Some of these models are free to use, but some of them charge us.
How does Arwen work?
Arwen does four things. Arwen uses articifial intelligence (AI) to continually scan your Twitter and Instagram feeds (Facebook coming soon), looking for 24 different types of hate (such as personal threat, profanity, racism, abuse etc). Arwen then manages those comments automatically based on filter settings that you can configure to suit you. Depending on the network, we can hide or mute messages, and even block users entirely. We then help you review and act on what’s happening, by showing you reports, for example of repeat offenders, so that you can choose to report them to the network. So we hide your content and protect you and your community, but we also help you call out the haters and their unacceptable behaviour. It’s all part of our mission to make Social Media social again.
How do I tell my community I’ve changed my policy?
Customers get access to a comprehensive knowledgebase which includes ways that you can communicate your change in stance to your users, so they know what you will and won’t accept in your community from that point on. Because that’s what it is, your community.
Do you read my social media messages?
No, we don’t read your social media posts. We only analyse content for the purpose of improving your settings and our overall service to you.
Do you post from my account?
No we never post from your account. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook all grant us a fixed set of permissions, as one of their authorised partners, but we will never use it to post.
Why do you need me to authorise Arwen on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram?
Twitter, Facebook and Instagram require us to be authorised on your account so we can act on your behalf. They have chosen to include in that authorisation a set of bundled permissions, one of which is permission to post to your social media accounts. We never act on that permission and will never post on your social media accounts. We only use the authorisation to hide, mute or delete content, and to block individuals, according to the filters you set and control.
Why is Instagram more complicated to set up than Twitter?
Instagram and Meta, the company that owns Instagram, have set certain set up requirements that are out of our hands. We have worked hard to make that process as simple as possible, with most people setting up Instagram in minutes. We hope that, through our partnership with Instagram, we will be able to make this process simpler and easier over time.
When can I get covered on TikTok, YouTube and other networks?
We currently offer cover for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – three of the leading social networks globally. We’re always working hard to add more.
Aren’t you damaging freedom of speech?
We believe passionately in freedom of speech. We also believe that people should be able to protect themselves and the people in their community from hate and abuse online.
Can you handle emojis and spelling mistakes?
Yes we can. Use of emojis is constantly changing, so it’s one of the things we’re always reviewing.
What if Arwen mistakenly hides something and I want to unhide it?
Arwen rarely makes mistakes, but if it does you can easily go to your management dashboard and unhide it.
What’s the difference between a user, an admin and a moderator?
This usually only applies to business accounts. A user is the person being protected by Arwen. An Admin is someone who administers the business account, which may cover multiple users. A Moderator is managed by the Admin, to moderate the content of one or more users.
